Raise your hand if you hated brussels sprouts as a kid...
And now raise your hand if you still hate brussels sprouts...
I think many people have an aversion to brussels sprouts because they were forced to eat an overcooked mush that their parents called brussels sprouts. I don't blame you - I don't want to eat green mush either.
But with proper cooking technique, and the help of some flavorful seasonings, brussels sprouts can not only be delicious, but crave-worthy!
That's these Oil-Free Skillet-Fried Brussels Sprouts. We will pan-fry these sprouts so they are browned on the outside, but still crisp, crunchy, and fresh. Add a sweet & spicy sauce, top with some sesame seeds, and you've got yourself a tasty dish that even the brussels sprouts haters will love!
Let's cook!
Step 1. In a medium bowl, mix the trimmed Brussels sprouts with the 1 tablespoon of the maple syrup or date syrup, salt, and 1 tablespoon water.
Step 2. Place the brussels sprouts cut-side down on the pan. Cook until deeply browned, adding a splash of water as necessary to avoid sticking. If the sprouts are extra large, flip them over and cook on the other side until tender.
Step 3. Remove the sprouts from the heat and place them back in the bowl. Add the rice vinegar, sriracha, and remaining maple syrup. Stir to combine.
Step 4. To serve, sprinkle with the sesame seeds and chopped scallions. Season with salt and pepper, to taste. Enjoy!
Thank you God for healthy foods that are tasty for us to eat. We are grateful for the gift of food. Amen.
