    Peanut Butter Protein Nice Cream

I don't know how the weather is where you live, but here in Indiana, it's pretty chilly outside still. I don't care though. In my house, it's ALWAYS time for ice cream.

I used to have 'real' ice cream almost every night for dessert. Now, I can't even imagine eating ice cream as a post workout snack. Or eating ice cream at all. I can't deny that it tastes good, but ice cream made me feel awful. And there are so many other reasons why we probably shouldn't be eating dairy products.

The good news is, I would definitely eat this Peanut Butter Protein Nice Cream as a post workout snack. Because it's made with whole food ingredients!!

Bananas and peanut powder blended together produce this sweet, creamy, thick soft serve that is irresistible.

Speaking of ingredients, bananas and peanut powder are pretty much it for this nice cream.

I added some vanilla and salt for a bit of extra flavor, but frozen bananas and peanut powder are the bulk of this recipe.

    Ingredient Notes & Substitutions

    • Frozen Bananas: chop them up and freeze them the night before you want to make this. I find that it takes a full day to fully freeze bananas
    • Peanut Powder: see my notes below on peanut powder. If you aren't concerned about protein, you could use peanut butter instead. Or if you can't have peanuts you can use almond powder.
    • Vanilla Extract: vanilla adds a depth of flavor. I highly recommend adding a splash
    • Salt: salt helps enhance the sweetness, you should definitely add a pinch
    • Toppings: chocolate chips, peanut butter, additional bananas, chopped peanuts, etc.

How to Make Peanut Butter Protein Nice Cream

Making nice cream is pretty simple.

Step 1. Add all the ingredients to a food processor or blender and process until you get a nice smooth texture.

Once you have a smooth nice cream you can either eat it immediately as soft serve or throw it back in the freezer for a more traditional ice cream texture. Top with whatever delicious toppings you prefer. My suggestions: peanut butter and chocolate chips. Enjoy!

    FAQ

    What is Peanut Powder?

If you haven't heard of peanut powder before, the concept can be a little weird. But basically, it's peanuts that have had the fat removed so you are left with peanut taste and lots of protein.

I'm a big fan of eating minimally processed foods and generally recommend that you eat real peanut butter instead of peanut powder. But what I love about peanut powder is that you can still achieve that peanut butter flavor without all the extra calories that come with peanut butter.

I don't know about you, but it's very hard for me to eat just a serving of peanut butter. It's a lot easier for me to put peanut powder in a recipe and I don't have to worry about eating too much or feeling super full and bloated after my meal.

If you're looking for a nice cream recipe that uses peanut butter instead of peanut powder, you can find one I made a while ago here.

But I really think you should give this Peanut Butter Protein Nice Cream a try. It's packed with protein and peanut flavor. Sooo good!

What peanut powder should I buy?

Like I mentioned, peanut powder is processed. All the fat (aka much of the flavor) has been removed. That means that companies will add things like sugar or other flavorings to try to enhance the flavor of their product.

When you're buying peanut powder make sure to check the label for added ingredients. The only food that should be on the label is peanuts. If there's something else, don't buy it.

Personally, I love buying this brand of peanut powder. This is not a sponsored link, it's just the most affordable option I've found.

Why is it taking so long to blend?

Depending on how frozen your bananas are, blending may take a while. Since there's no liquid, this mixture is thick!

I like to let my bananas thaw for a few minutes. before blending. This way they are still frozen but much softer than they would be if I took them straight from the freezer. It makes the blending much easier.

Can I use a blender OR a food processor?

Yes! I've made this recipe in both a blender and a food processor. Both work great.

    Recipe Prayer

Thank you God for dessert! We are grateful for the treats that we get to enjoy. Amen.
