Everyone needs a fancy lil cocktail to bring to parties or whip up when hosting. And this French 75 mocktail screams fancy.

Plus, it is absolutely fabulous! The bright citrus flavor is balanced with sweet. And of course, as a champagne mocktail would, it's perfectly bubbly.

This is my NYE mocktail this year (to ring in my 10pm new year ofc)

    What is a French 75?

A French 75 is a champagne cocktail that typically uses gin, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, and champagne.

It's often served in a coupe glass or champagne flute. The drink originated around World War I, and is named after the French 75mm field gun, according to stories.

This mocktail version keeps is a sparkling, lemon-forward version of the original. Sans alcohol!

Why You'll Love This French 75 Mocktail

    • Bright & Bubbly - refreshing citrus and effervescence
    • Celebration Ready - perfect for brunch, holidays, or parties
    • Non-Alcoholic - all the fun and flavor, none of the booze.
    • Easy to Make - just shake, strain, and top with sparkling water
    • Fancy Presentation - feels extra elevated in champagne or coupe glass

    Ingredient Notes & Substitutions

    • Ice
    • White Grape Juice: this is part of the substitute for champagne - it adds some extra sweetness and depth of flavor. You could also use any other lighter colored juice like pear, peach, or pineapple (though the flavor might change)
    • Fresh Lemon Juice: fresh lemon juice is best! You will taste the difference
    • Simple Syrup: I used my agave simple syrup feel free to use any simple syrup you like/have.
    • Apple Cider Vinegar: I often use apple cider vinegar to replace alcohol in my mocktails. Of course, we won't use an entire shot's worth - just enough for the bite
    • Sparkling Water: I prefer this mocktail with plain seltzer water. If you want to step up the lemon flavor, you can use a lemon seltzer - ideally something like Spindrift that uses real lemon juice
    • Lemon Twist: for garnish. See my notes below for how to make the twist. It's SO easy!

How to make a lemon twist

Lemon twists are super fun and make the French 75 feel extra classy! They are also SUPER easy to make.

Grab a lemon and a vegetable peeler or pairing knife. Carefully peel a strip of skin off the lemon, leaving as much of the white pith on the lemon as possible.

If you want, slice that strip of lemon into a more even rectangular shape.

Twist the rectangle into a tight spiral and hold for about 10 seconds. Then release.

    A perfect twist!

    FAQ & Expert Tips

Can I make it in advance?

Yes! Feel free to mix the lemon juice, grape juice, apple cider vinegar, and syrup ahead of time. Store in the fridge for up to 5 days. Top with the sparkling water right before serving.

Can I batch this for a party?

Yes! Mix your desired amount of the mix the lemon juice, grape juice, apple cider vinegar, and syrup in a pitcher. Refrigerate to chill. Allow guests to pour their own and top with sparkling water.

How do I make it sweeter or more tart?

Add more simple syrup for sweetness or use more vinegar or lemon for tartness.

    What glass should I use?

French 75s are traditionally served in a champagne glass, because they are a champagne cocktail! But a coupe works great. Or any glass you have!
