This Tropical Orange Smoothie Bowl makes me think of the beach. I love all the fruity flavors in this bowl. Plus, if you top the bowl with coconut like I did, it adds even more tropical vibes.

All you need to make this bowl are a few simple ingredients. It's mostly fruit with just a couple other things added in for optimal flavor and a perfect texture.

A tropical smoothie bowl and a pineapple.

Why I love this Tropical Smoothie Bowl

    • Dietary needs - this smoothie is dairy-free, vegan, oil-free, gluten-free, and sugar-free
    • Easy to make - smoothies are such an easy way to get in plenty of nutrients.
    • Great for meal prep - you can make smoothies the night before or even the weekend before for a grab and go breakfast
    • Customizable -  grab your choose your favorite frozen fruits, add protein powder, and switch up the toppings you add for a different breakfast every morning
    • Enjoy tropical flavors year round - fruits like mango and pineapple are usually only available during the summer months, but frozen fruits are available year round!

    Ingredient Notes & Substitutions

    • Frozen Pineapple: I often freeze leftover pineapple and usually have some on hand, but store bought is great and available year round!
    • Frozen Mango: you could also use a medley of tropical fruits - the frozen fruit section is usually filled with fun fruit combinations
    • Frozen Banana: Pro tip - ALWAYS slice and freeze your overripe bananas. They are so useful. Bananas make smoothies thick and creamy. And you can also make nice cream!
    • Fresh Ginger: ginger adds a bit of zing and brightness to the smoothie. It's also very cheap to buy fresh and super good for you! If you cant find it or don't like ginger, feel free to omit it
    • Orange Juice: OJ adds sweetness and more vitamins to the smoothie. Other options are coconut water or coconut milk for those tropical vibes. Or just regular non-dairy milk.

How to make a Tropical Orange Smoothie Bowl

Step 1. Add all the ingredients to a food processor. Blend until smooth. Pour into a bowl and top with desired toppings such as fresh fruit, shredded coconut, or chia seeds. Enjoy!

Tips for the best mango orange smoothie

    • Make it easy on your blender. If your ingredients are very frozen, let them thaw slightly before blending.
    • Add sweetness. If you want a bit more sweetness than just frozen fruit, add a few teaspoons of maple or date syrup.
    • Add protein powder. I often use Naked's Vegan Vanilla Shake protein powder. I love this brand because of how clean there ingredients are. If you're looking for a completely unsweetened protein powder you can try their vegan seed protein powder. I also like the Natreve brand  they have a French vanilla flavor that would work well in this smoothie.
    • Use frozen fruit, not ice. Ice makes for a watery smoothie that doesn't store well. Instead, use frozen fruit (as opposed to fresh.)
    • Add your favorite toppings. The topping possibilities are literally endless. I chose fresh fruit and coconut flakes for tropical vibes. Other topping ideas include non-dairy yogurt, seeds like chia seeds or flaxseeds, nuts like walnuts, nut butters, chocolate chips, cereals and more!

    FAQ & Expert Tips

    Storing leftovers

I store my smoothie leftovers in a freezer safe bag. They can last for months in the freezer.

    Defrost in the fridge overnight.

    Prep for the go

Grab some plastic or other freezer-safe cups and pour in the smoothie. Cover with plastic wrap and freeze. Then defrost in the fridge the night before you want to drink your smoothie.
