Ingredient Notes & Substitutions
- White Beans: I used white beans - cannellini beans or great northern beans work great. For a more classic baked bean, use pinto beans. Whichever bean you choose, buy regular canned beans, not a can labeled 'baked beans'
- Cranberry Sauce: feel free to use store-bought cranberry sauce. For a refined sugar free (and more flavorful) option, use my homemade cranberry sauce
- BBQ Sauce: store-bought is great, and is what I did for this recipe. But feel free to also use homemade BBQ sauce.
- Salt
- Baking Soda: this is optional, but beans can get hard when heated for so long, so the a base (non acidic) ingredient can help balance out the texture
- Cornstarch: you can also use arrowroot powder
- Fresh Parsley: optional, for a little green garnish
