This Vegan Cream Cheese Buttercream Frosting is tangy, creamy, and perfectly sweet. A soft, luscious, pipeable, yet firm version of like the classic frosting. Delicious on carrot cake or red velvet cake, or drizzled on cinnamon rolls!

This vegan cream cheese frosting is the best of both worlds: it has the richness of buttercream, but a light and fluffy texture from the cream cheese. It's decadent and sweet, but not overly heavy.
Perfect for frosting carrot cake, red velvet cake, or cinnamon rolls!

Why You'll Love This Vegan Cream Cheese Buttercream Frosting
- Ultra fluffy - this frosting is not as dense as regular buttercream, thanks to the cream cheese! It's light and luscious.
- Simple ingredients - made with vegan cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vegan butter.
- Foolproof - comes together in just 5 minutes
- Versatile - perfect for carrot cake, red velvet cake, cinnamon rolls, or a twist on cupcake frosting

Ingredient Notes & Substitutions
- Vegan Cream Cheese: I use Kroger's Simple Truth Organic cream cheese, as I find it has the best consistency. I recommend this or a vegan cream cheese that is on the firmer side.
- Vegan Butter: I use Earth Balance. This can also work with Miyokos. Avoid using Country Crock plant butter, as it is too oily
- Organic Powdered Sugar: buy organic sugar to ensure it is vegan
- Vanilla
- Pinch Salt: even though the butter is salted, I find the frosting benefits from just a pinch of salt

Step-By-Step Instructions
Step 1. Let butter soften, but leave cream cheese in fridge. Beat butter and cream cheese together for about 5 minutes, until combined. Make sure the butter and cream cheese are perfectly smooth before moving on - do not add the sugar until there are no lumps remaining.

Step 2. Add the sugar, vanilla, and salt. Beat again until the sugar is incorporated. Refrigerate until 5-10 minutes before you are ready to use. This frosting is best piped or spread while chilled but not totally cold.

Pro Tip: For best texture and structure, beat the frosting while the cream cheese is still chilled.
FAQ & Expert Tips
I recommend using Kroger's simple truth organic vegan cream cheese. It has fairly clean ingredients, but is quite firm.
Use a vegan cream cheese that is on the firmer side. I'd avoid using Miyokos or similar brands - while quite clean in terms of ingredients, it does not hold together as well.
This frosting is perfect when made ahead. I recommend this, actually! The frosting pipes/spreads better when cold.
For the freshest flavor, keep in the fridge for up to a week.
Though, I've had it last for almost two weeks before!
