Ingredient Notes & Substitutions
- Agave or Vegan Honey: I used blue agave. Vegan honey also works - it has more of a clover-like taste, if you prefer that
- Frank's Red Hot: or any other hot sauce (some hot sauces have butter, so double check the ingredients before buying!)
- Red Pepper Flakes: for texture and extra heat
- Apple Cider Vinegar: a bit of acid helps balance all the flavors

Step-By-Step Instructions
Step 1. In a small pot, heat the honey, hot sauce, and red pepper flakes. Stir to dissolve, about 3-5 minutes.

Step 2. Remove from the heat and stir in the apple cider vinegar.

Step 3. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three months.

FAQ & Expert Tips
Store this vegan honey in an airtight container for up to three months. I used these beautiful jars that come with spouts and lids!
Yes! Start by making the recipe as-is. If you want it more spicy, add more red hot. If it's too spicy, add more agave.
In general hot honey does not need to be refrigerated, but I recommend refrigerating this vegan version because it isn't made with real honey. Plus, there's no risk of crystallization.
This honey will last around 3 months in the fridge when stored in a sealed container.
No. Regular hot honey is not vegan because honey is not vegan. Honey is an animal product, so it doesn't fit the strict definition of vegan.
This version made with agave is vegan though!
