This is my vegan friendly version of Starbucks' Banana Cream Matcha Latte!

I made homemade banana syrup that tastes like banana bread in a jar! Froth with some milk, and add to matcha. A creamy, sweet, earthy drink.

Skip the store-bought version and make a tasty homemade drink anytime!

Why You'll Love This Banana Cream Matcha Latte

    • Vegan friendly - I made this latte with non dairy milk and of course the syrup is vegan too
    • Iced or hot - Enjoy it chilled for summer weather or steamed for a cozy winter drink
    • Make at home any time - no need to run to Starbucks, you can make this latte at home without any special equipment
    • Coffee-free energy - matcha gives a calm, steady boost without the crash
    • Banana twist - the fruity syrup perfectly complements earthy matcha

    Ingredient Notes & Substitutions

    • Matcha: use your favorite matcha
    • Hot Water & Cold Water: If you're making an iced latte I recommend mixing the matcha with hot water first. This helps the powder fully emulsify with the water. Then finish with cold water to help cool down the drink. For a hot latte, use warm water only.
    • Milk: oat milk is super smooth, creamy, and delightful in lattes. If you don't want to use oat, you can also use soy. I find that almond milk tastes a little funky in lattes, so I recommend soy milk or oat milk.
    • Banana Syrup: I used my banana simple syrup

Pro Tip: Use ceremonial-grade matcha for the best flavor and color.

Banana cream matcha latte step 2 - sift the matcha.

Step 3. Add the warm water and whisk in an "M" motion.

Banana cream matcha latte step 3 - whisk the matcha and hot water.

Step 4. Add the cold water (or the rest of the hot water for a hot latte) and whisk again.

Banana cream matcha latte step 4 - add the remaining water and whisk again.

Step 5. In a mason jar or measuring cup, whisk/froth together the milk and banana syrup.

Banana cream matcha latte step 5 - whisk the milk and banana syrup.

Step 6. Add ice to the glass. Pour the matcha over the ice, then top with the banana milk.

    FAQ & Expert Tips

Can I make this warm instead of iced?

Yes! Use only warm water in the matcha, skip the ice, and warm the milk on the stove or microwave before mixing.

    What milk works best?

Barista-style oat milk gives the creamiest texture, but any kind works. I typically use soy milk!

    Can I make other flavors?

Yes! Use this recipe with other syrups. My strawberry syrup is great with matcha!
