A bowl of blueberry orange oatmeal.

I'm a creature of habit, so it's unusual for me to stray from my typical routine. But I've been taking my oat obsession to the next level recently and experimenting with different flavors and colors. Honestly, I'm loving it. This is super cliché, but they say variety is the spice of life. And it's actually true.

If you're stuck in a breakfast rut, this Blueberry Orange Oatmeal Bowl could be the answer you've been looking for. Even if you're someone who eats oats on the regular (like me!!). Changing up your typical flavors can make all the difference.

Plus, eating a variety of foods is actually good for you. As I'm sure you've probably know, eating lots of different foods will give you a variety of vitamins and minerals. If you eat the same foods over and over, you're only getting the same vitamins and minerals in the same forms. But when you mix it up, you're giving your body more nutrients that it needs. It's so good to provide our bodies with many options to absorb vitamins and minerals.

So, especially if you're a creature of habit like me, do your body a favor and mix it up with some new foods and flavors!

Another reason to try this Blueberry Orange Oatmeal Bowl is the amazing colors. The blue and orange complement each other so well! And the best part is that it doesn't have to be summer to enjoy these vibrant colors. In the summer you can use fresh blueberries if you want, but frozen berries are an option year round. And oranges are in season all year. So eat up!

How to make Blueberry Orange Oatmeal Bowls

I wanted this bowl to have an intense fruity flavor, so we're going to juice half of the orange and use it as a liquid to cook the oats.

Step 1. Microwave your oats with orange juice and water. If you're using frozen blueberries, go ahead and throw those into the microwave with the oats.

Step 2. While the oats are cooking, slice the other half of the orange. I left the rind on for the pictures, but you don't want to eat that part, so go ahead and slice it off.

Step 3. When the oats are cooked, stir in some ground flaxseeds, cinnamon, and nutmeg. If you want to use fresh blueberries, stir those in too. Then, top with the orange slices and some chia seeds. Enjoy!

Jesus, thank you for variety. Thank you for creating beautiful colors and unique flavors that feed our bodies. Amen.
