This creamy Brown Sugar Oat Milk Latte is the perfect balance of bold espresso, rich brown sugar, and velvety oat milk. Inspired by the classic Starbucks latte, but made with simple ingredients at home.

I'm all for a good store-bought latte, but I'm not always all for the price. To me, a store-bought coffee is an occasional treat, not an every day thing. BUT it's super easy to make your own drinks at home.
With homemade drinks you can also totally control the sweetness.
I'm an iced coffee girlie so I made an iced version of this brown sugar oat milk latte. But I have instructions for both hot and iced lattes below.

Why You'll Love This Brown Sugar Oat Milk Latte
- No equipment necessary - if you have an espresso machine, feel free to use it. If not, I have a no-equipment espresso option that makes beautifully delicious espresso
- Dietary needs - this latte is totally dairy free and vegan. If you want a refined sugar-free option, I've listed alternative syrup options below!
- Easy to customize - adjust sweetness, strength, or milk type to your preference
- Coffee shop vibes - a homemade version of the Starbucks favorite

Ingredient Notes & Substitutions
- Espresso: if you have an espresso machine brew a double shot for this latte. If not, I highly recommend espresso powder! The brand Medaglia D'Oro is my go-to. I've never found another brand I like. This espresso powder is smooth, bold, and not bitter. It's a great alternative to espresso. Alternatively, strong brewed coffee or instant coffee can also work.
- Brown Sugar Simple Syrup: my easy Brown Sugar Simple Syrup is perfect for this recipe! For a refined sugar free version, fry my Maple Simple Syrup or my Agave Simple Syrup
- Oat Milk: I used Planet Oat's unsweetened extra creamy milk. Look for the creamiest milk you can find or anything labeled "barista"
- Ice: if making an iced version

Pro Tip: make your latte extra creamy with barista-style oat milk
Step-By-Step Instructions
Step 1. Brew or make your espresso.

Step 2. For an iced version, add ice to your glass. For a hot version, steam or heat your milk.

Step 3. To your glass or mug add the brewed espresso, brown sugar simple syrup, then the milk.

Pro Tip: Keep brown sugar syrup in the fridge for quick lattes anytime.

FAQ & Expert Tips
Yes! If you don't have espresso (or espresso powder) you can substitute strong brewed coffee or even use instant coffee - use about 2 ounces of strong coffee.
Yes! I only recommend doing this if you're making an iced version. Scale up to however many drinks you'd like. And store in the fridge for up to two days.
Yes! Any milk will work. I recommend soy milk if you aren't using oat. Or any milk labeled "barista"
If you want to brew your own espresso and are looking for a quality, functional, yet inexpensive machine, I recommend the Breville Bambino. This does require that you own a separate grinder.
For an all-in-one machine, the Breville Barista Express is what you want.

I found in reading ingredients that the extra creamy oat milk has oil in it. Just an fyi for those who are trying to avoid oil.. The recipe sounds great though.

Thanks for the callout! If you're okay with the flavor, canned coconut milk could also be a good thicker, creamy option that's oil-free.
