What is an espresso martini mocktail?
An espresso martini is made with espresso, coffee liqueur, and vodka. The coffee liqueur typically used is kahlúa, which is made from rum, sugar, coffee, sugar, and milk.
This mocktail replaces the coffee liqueur and vodka with a non-dairy alternative and a hint of rum flavor.

Why I love these Espresso Martini Mocktails
- No Alcohol - of course! It's a mocktail, so there's no alcohol at all. If you want to add alcohol I give the quantity and type of liquor below
- Great for kids and adults - the kids can have fun feeling like an adult and the adults can enjoy a cocktail without the effects of alcohol. This mocktail has sweet flavor that kids will love, yet adults will still recognize the classic old fashioned flavor profile
- Dietary needs - besides being alcohol-free this coffee mockail is plant-based, oil-free, gluten-free, and refined sugar-free

Ingredient Notes & Substitutions
- Espresso: fresh espresso is ideal for this espresso mocktail, but you can always use strong brewed black coffee or cold brew if you don't have an espresso machine
- Non-Dairy Milk or Cream: I highly recommend using oat milk or oat creamer for this drink. I find that almond milk does not mix well with coffee and coconut milk can add a coconut taste. Soy milk or cashew milk would work well.
- Maple Simple Syrup: this is simple syrup made from maple syrup instead of white sugar! Feel free to adjust the level of sweetness to your preference.
- Vanilla Extract: just a splash of vanilla creates a deeper flavor in these coffee mocktails
- Rum Extract: The rum extract in this mocktail is what transforms the drink from a coffee with cream to a true mocktail. Rum extract has the essence of rum flavor without a serving of booze. I love keeping rum extract around for recipes like this where you just need a little hint of alcohol.
- Pinch Salt
- Cocoa Powder: optional, if you'd like to rim the glass

Step-By-Step Instructions
Step 1. Using some maple simple syrup, rim your glasses in cocoa powder.
Step 2. Add espresso, cream, simple syrup, vanilla extract, rum extract, and salt to a cocktail shaker. Shake well.
Step 3. Divide into two glasses.

Expert Tips & FAQs
To make this mocktail completely sugar-free, omit the maple simple syrup. If you're looking for a bit more sweetness, add some date syrup instead.
Traditional espresso martini cocktails have rum in the liqueur and vodka in the final cocktail. Feel free to add a shot of vodka, rum, or both to your glass for a boozy drink.

Do you think this would work with a non caffeinated coffee blend? 🙂
Elizabeth
It should work! Are you talking decaf coffee? Or a coffee alternative? If decaf, this will definitely work - brew it strongly so you get some good coffee flavor. If some type of alternative, it will work but may alter the flavor. Let me know what you're working with and I'm happy to advise more!

Yes! I was referring to the coffee alternatives! (like Chicory and stuff)
