A soothing and healing tea for flu season. This lemon ginger tea is ready anytime with the magic of pre-making a syrup!

Make a batch of lemon ginger syrup and then mix with hot water for an instant tea.

Lemon and ginger provide antioxidants, vitamins, and anti-inflammatory compounds to help when you're sick (or trying to prevent sickness). Plus, if you make a batch of my lemon ginger syrup with honey instead of white sugar, you'll get all the beneficial properties of honey as well!

Keep a jar of syrup in the fridge all winter long for tea anytime!

    Ingredient Notes & Substitutions

    • Lemon Ginger Syrup: my lemon ginger syrup is the base of this tea. It's made with fresh lemon juice and fresh ginger and takes just 5 minutes to make! In my original version, I use white sugar, but for a tea version, replace the sugar with honey for even more benefits!

    Optional Add-ins

    • Chamomile or Herbal Tea Bag: anything non-caffeinated is perfect for a sick day!
    • Lemon Juice: add another squeeze of fresh lemon juice for tang
    • Turmeric & Black Pepper: a pinch of turmeric (and black pepper for absorption) or even turmeric root if you can find it, is very healing
    • Cinnamon Stick: cinnamon has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects and adds a nice gentle sweet-spice to the tea
    • Cloves: cloves also have antioxidants - if you have some on hand from baking or other mocktails, throw one in!

How many lemons did you use? How much fresh ginger? Grated or minced?
      To a quart of water?
I have been making individual cups for a sore throat using 1/2 lemon and a teaspoon of finely grated ginger with 2 tablespoons of honey - it helps ease the throat but having a jar of it prepared would make life simpler!
      Thanks.
