This Naturally Sweetened Apple Hot Toddy is a warm soothing drink with an apple-flavored twist. Perfect for a cold winter evening!

A glass of apple hot toddy, garnished with a lemon wedge, fresh apples, and star anise.

Ahhh the hot toddy. It's well known for being a soothing drink, and can actually have some benefits if you're feeling a little under the weather. Lemon juice and a bit of hard liquor can help clear out your nasal system.

Even if you're not sick, a hot toddy is just one of those warm beverages you'll want to curl up with next to the fire. Or, ya know, on the couch.

    Naturally Sweetened Apple Hot Toddy

Why this Hot Toddy recipe is different

This hot toddy recipe is different than your typical hot toddy for two reasons:

    1. It's apple flavored! A regular hot toddy is made from lemon juice, honey, and whiskey. This recipe has a twist of apple flavor from apple cider and apple brandy.
    2. It's naturally sweetened! No honey or maple syrup in this recipe. Both apple cider and apple brandy are made from just apples - they are highly concentrated so they give a strong sweet apple flavor.

Why I love this Naturally Sweetened Apple Hot Toddy

    • Dietary needs -this recipe is plant-based, oil-free, gluten-free, and naturally sweetened! No sugar or maple syrup here - just apples‍
    • Warm and soothing - hot toddies are the perfect warm and soothing drink for a cold day‍
    • Quick and easy - it only takes 5 minutes to whip up a hot toddy and this drink is very beginner friendly. No crazy mixing!

    Ingredient Notes

    • Hot Water
    • Apple Cider: find a cider with no added sugar - many ciders are like this since they are naturally very sweet
    • Whiskey: your choice of whiskey is up to you. I used a mid-tier bourbon. But any whiskey you like will be great.
    • Apple Brandy: a regular brandy is distilled from grapes, but apple brandy is distilled from - you guessed it - apples! It has a sweet flavor that goes so well in this drink because it's only made from apples. You should be able to find apple brandy at your local liquor store.‍
    • Lemon Juice: fresh is best!‍
    • Garnish: sliced lemon, apple slice, cinnamon stick, star anise
