    Gluten-Free Vegan Apple Tart

Why I love this Apple Tart

    • Dietary needs - this recipe is dairy-free, plant-based, oil-free, gluten-free, and can be made refined sugar-free
    • Decadent dessert - this tart is rich and flavorful! Even though there's no butter, there's still enough fat to create tons of flavor
    • Easy to make - despite what it might look like, the beautiful design of this tart is NOT complicated. It's actually really easy to make and you can impress your guests with a super simple dish

    Ingredient Notes

    Filling

    • Apples: I used Granny Smith and Honeycrisp. You can definitely use other varieties, but I do recommend sticking with one tart and one sweet apple.
    • Maple Syrup: for a completely refined sugar free dessert use date syrup. Note that this will change the color of the tart.
    • Pecan Butter: you can make your own pecan butter by blending pecans in a food processor. I highly recommend doing this so you can create a super smooth and creamy butter, which works best for this recipe. Alternatively, you can use a runny almond or cashew butter.
    • Lemon Juice
    • Cinnamon
    • Vanilla
    • Salt

    Crust

    • Oat Flour: For a rustic crust, make your own oat flour by blending oats in a food processor. If you'd like a super clean, smooth crust you can buy oat flour.
    • Maple Syrup: for a completely refined sugar free dessert use date syrup.
    • Pecan Butter: or other nut butter of choice.
    • Salt
    • Cinnamon

How to make a Gluten-Free Vegan Apple Tart

Step 1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.

Step 2. In a large bowl, toss the apples, maple syrup, lemon juice, cinnamon, vanilla, and salt. Let the mixture sit while you prepare the crust.

Step 3. In another large bowl, whisk the oat flour, salt, and cinnamon. Stir in the maple syrup and pecan butter until a dough forms.

Step 4. Press the crust mixture into the bottom and sides of a 9" round tart pan.

Step 5. Arrange the apples over the crust (see the next section for how to style the tart). Drizzle with any remaining liquid from the apple marinade.

Step 6. Bake for 45-50 minutes, until the crust is brown and the apples are soft.

Step 7. Let cool slightly. Serve and enjoy!

How to style an Apple Tart

I promise: it's not difficult at all to make your tart look beautiful.

When you slice the apples, try to keep stacks of slices together. This way, when you place the apples into the crust, you can have groups of similarly-sliced apples next to each other.

Then, as you arrange the apples, place the stacks in different directions. Some horizontal, some vertical, some on a diagonal.

After you place your large stacks you can fill in the gaps with stray slices of apple.

The result: a beautiful tart that only takes a few minutes to arrange.
