    Vegan Spiced Turmeric latte

When it's cold outside all I want to do is curl up by the fire with my cat, a good book, and a Vegan Spiced Turmeric Latte. Seriously guys, where did fall go this year? Here in the Midwest, we had like one good week of fall where the weather was beautiful and we could enjoy the pretty fall colors. And then it snowed. Hah. Well at least we can all fill our cold days with Vegan Spiced Turmeric Lattes.

What I love about this recipe is that it's so versatile. I think I make it a little different every time. But that's why it's awesome. You can adjust the spices to make it work for you and your personal tastes.

You can even cook it different ways. I love to warm up the water in a pot on a stove and add in the spices, letting them meld with the liquid. But if you're in a pinch (or just don't feel like standing in front of the stove) you can always boil some water and stir in your spices and mix-ins.

How to make a Vegan Spiced Turmeric Latte

As the name suggests, the main ingredient is turmeric. Turmeric contains a pigment called curcumin which makes it yellow. This pigment is anti-inflammatory and totes many other health benefits such as reducing cancer risk (see nutritionfacts.org for more information).

After adding black pepper to help activate the turmeric, I just go crazy with the spices. Cinnamon, allspice, and ginger are some of my favorites. I also add a sprinkle of nutmeg and cloves.

To make this a true latte I add some plant-based milk. Sometimes I'll use almond milk or add a tablespoon of full-fat coconut milk. Really it's up to you and your preferences.

Another fun addition is espresso powder or instant coffee. I love the depth of coffee flavor.

Finally, for some sweetness, I'll add some date syrup. I don't like this drink too sweet, so I'll only add a teaspoon or so, but if you want something really sweet, add as much as you want. It's up to you!

I hope you enjoy playing around with this recipe. Let me know if you try it - tag me @elizabeths_table on Instragram or Facebook.
