    Why make hummus without oil?

Okay, smooth, creamy hummus without oil. But why would you even want to make hummus without oil?

Oil is a processed food. To make olive oil, you take whole olives and press and press and press them until nothing is left except oil.

It takes a lot of processing to turn an olive into oil. And when you process the olives, you take out almost all of their nutrient content - like fiber - and the result is a high-fat, low-nutrient substance.

Plus, oil (even olive oil) has been shown to have the same detrimental affects to our arteries as fast foods. Read this article for more information.

So, why not replace that oil with a lower calorie option? You can get more nutrients and less calories.

Why I love this Oil-Free Hummus

Okay so I just finished telling you why I love hummus, but why do I love this hummus??

    • ‍Dietary needs - this hummus is oil-free, dairy-free, plant-based, gluten-free, and sugar-free
    • Creamy without oil - this hummus is so smooth and creamy with out any highly processed ingredients

    Ingredient Notes

    • Chickpeas: you can use canned or dry chickpeas for this recipe, just make sure to reserve the liquid from the can if you use canned or cooking liquid if you use dried
    • Aquafaba: this is the reserved liquid, it's what we'll use in place of the oil
    • Tahini: tahini is a sesame seed paste. If you don't have any you could use sunflower seed butter or almond butter
    • Lemon Juice: fresh is best
    • Minced Garlic: mincing the garlic before you blend it keeps it from getting too strong
    • Spices: cumin, salt, cayenne or chili powder (optional)
