    Vegan Tahini Hot Chocolate

    What is Tahini Hot Chocolate?

It's hot chocolate, with deliciously thick tahini stirred in.

I often use nut and seed butters to add flavor to my cooking. Since they are high in fat they create that rich, deep flavor you want in desserts.

This tahini hot chocolate is no different.

The tahini adds flavor and creaminess. And yes, you can taste it a bit, but there's also plenty of chocolate in this hot chocolate, so you won't be overwhelmed with tahini flavor.

Why I love this Vegan Tahini Hot Chocolate

    • Dietary needs - this recipe is plant-based, gluten-free, oil-free, and refined sugar-free.
    • Actually the thickest hot chocolate you will ever drink - This drink literally turns solid in the fridge. That's how thick it is.
    • Adjustable sweetness - by using unsweetened chocolate and adding maple syrup, you control the sweetness level of your drink. Great if you're a dark chocolate lover or if you have a big sweet tooth

    Ingredient Notes & Substitutions

    • Oat Milk: I chose oat milk because it is super creamy. But any non-dairy milk that you have will work
    • Tahini: this is tahini hot chocolate, but if you want to try this recipe with another nut or seed butter I can't think of a bad combo! I might have to make this with peanut butter, sounds so tasty!
    • Maple Syrup: you could sub date syrup
    • Espresso Powder: you can also use instant coffee - the goal is that coffee-chocolate flavor combo
    • Vanilla Extract: vanilla enhances the flavors of chocolate, don't skip it!
    • Nutmeg: nutmeg adds a little je ne sais quoi - trust me, you want a pinch of nutmeg in this hot chocolate
    • Salt
    • Unsweetened Chocolate: to keep this hot chocolate dairy-free and to control your sweetness level, use unsweetened chocolate - a baking chocolate bar is perfect here.
    • Toppings: Coconut Whipped Cream, Shaved Chocolate, Tahini, Sesame Seeds

How to Make Vegan Tahini Hot Chocolate

Step 1. Heat all the ingredients in a small saucepan over medium heat, until the chocolate is melted.

Step 2. If desired, transfer to a blender and blend until smooth. This step is optional but it ensures the mixture is entirely smooth and extra creamy.

Step 3. Pour into glasses and top with coconut whipped cream, shaved chocolate, tahini, and sesame seeds.

    FAQ & Expert Tips

    Storing and Reheating

Like I mentioned earlier, this hot chocolate literally turns solid in the fridge.
For best results, drink the hot chocolate immediately.

But, if you want to save some for later, here's what to do:
Step 1. Pour the hot chocolate into a mason jar or other microwavable container.
Step 2. Cover and store in the fridge. This hot chocolate will last several weeks in the fridge.
Step 3. When you're ready to drink it, remove the lid and microwave the container on 50% power, stirring every 30-45 seconds, until the hot chocolate is liquid again (this is the same process you'd use to melt chocolate).

Alternatively, you can scoop the solid-ish chocolate out of the jar and heat on the stove.

    Recipe Prayer

Thank you God for decadent hot chocolate. Help us to enjoy every sip. Amen.
