This Dairy Free Vegan Iced Mocha is better than a store bought mocha! Easy to make at home with espresso, chocolate syrup, and non-dairy milk. A coffee shop-style drink full of chocolate and totally customizable.

If you've been around here for a while you know I'm not much of a chocolate girlie. I choose vanilla every time!

But the people love chocolate. And despite my vanilla-loving tendencies, I would take a mocha like this from time to time.

This homemade mocha is totally dairy free and vegan. With my homemade chocolate syrup, some espresso (or instant coffee!) and non-dairy milk. A cafe-style drink, at home!

Why You'll Love This Dairy Free Vegan Iced Mocha

    • Totally vegan and dairy free - with a vegan chocolate syrup and non-dairy milk, plus refined sugar free options, this drink is perfect for all dietary restrictions
    • Coffee Shop Inspired - just as delightful as the cafe version, but made at home anytime!
    • Rich & Chocolatey - lovely cocoa flavor in every sip
    • Customizable - Use your favorite milk and adjust the chocolate syrup to your preferred sweetness level
    • Refreshing - Perfect iced coffee drink for warm weather
    • Budget Friendly - Much cheaper than café drinks

    Ingredient Notes & Substitutions

    • Espresso: if you have an espresso machine, brew a double shot for this latte. If not, I highly recommend espresso powder! The brand Medaglia D'Oro is my go-to. I've never found another brand I like. This espresso powder is smooth, bold, and not bitter. It's a great alternative to espresso. Alternatively, strong brewed coffee, instant coffee, or cold brew concentrate can also work.
    • Chocolate Syrup: you can use my homemade chocolate simple syrup - made like a simple syrup with sugar or agave, cocoa powder, and water. Or try my maple chocolate syrup which is made with maple syrup and cocoa powder for a super thick and totally refined sugar free syrup.
    • Non-Dairy Milk: I typically recommend oat milk for the creamiest texture (especially anything labeled 'barista') but I often reach for soy milk for my own drinks - I love the boost of protein
    • Ice

    Step-By-Step Instructions

Step 1. Add ice to your glass. Drizzle the syrup along the sides of the glass (works best with the thicker version of the syrup). Add the espresso, then top with the milk.

How To Make It Taste Like A Coffee Shop Mocha

A few small details make homemade iced mochas taste more like café drinks:

    • Use espresso instead of regular brewed coffee
    • Use plenty of ice - coffee shops load up with ice and I swear this makes all the difference for the vibes
    • Use barista-style oat milk for extra creaminess
    • Top with whipped cream and an extra chocolate drizzle for extra decadence

    FAQ & Expert Tips

Can I make this ahead of time?

Yes! Just don't add the ice. The mocha will last a day or two in the fridge.

    Storage

If you make extra, feel free to store in a jar in the fridge. Strain out any ice and refrigerate for up to 3 days.
