What Goes In a Bibibop Bowl?
The classic bibibop bowl consists of a base of rice or kale, hot toppings like beans and broccoli, protein (tofu!), and cold toppings like kale, carrots, kimchi, and cucumbers.
I have recipes for all of these, but you definitely don't need to make every single component for a delicious bowl. Pick your favorites, grab a store bought version of something you don't feel like prepping - whatever works for you!

Choose Your Rice
Bibibop's purple rice is iconic and is a classic base for a Bibibop-style bowl. I make it with a simple combo of white rice and black rice, which cook together to create a stunning purple color!
My recipe: Korean-style purple rice
- Purple or white: feel free to skip the black rice and just make a pot of plain white rice
- Make it your base: Use as much or as little rice as you like depending on how hearty you want your bowl to be - feel free to use kale as some or all of your base as well

Pick Hot Toppings
I created my homemade version of Bibibop's sesame broccoli as well as a simple homemade bean recipe. You can also grab some bean sprouts and roast potatoes.

Pick Fresh Toppings
Bibibop offers a variety of fresh toppings, including their classic honey citrus kale, and sesame flavored carrots. And more "premium" toppings like avocado or pineapple.
My recipes: Honey Citrus Kale, Pickled Red Onions, Sesame Carrots
What I'd buy from the store:
- A cucumber to slice
- Pre-made kimchi
- Avocado to dice up
- Canned corn
- Pineapple, if that's your vibe

Protein & Sauce
Bibibop's vegan-friendly protein option is a tofu that's got a teriyaki-esque sauce. And their vegan sauce option is also teriyaki. So I've got a delicious homemade teriyaki tofu, plus extra teriyaki sauce for drizzling.

Cooking order
You can easily prep everything on this list in an hour or two. You can always meal-prep bowls for the week ahead.
But if you want to eat a warm bowl immediately after cooking, here's the cooking order I recommend:
- As much chopping as you can - if you can get organized to chop your onions, kale, carrots, broccoli, etc. it makes the whole process more smooth
- Pickled Red Onions - start with this because it benefits from sitting longer in the pickling liquid
- Honey Citrus Kale - cold topping that stays fresh for a long time
- Soak the Rice - if you're making purple rice be sure to start soaking about an hour before you want the finished rice
- Sesame Carrots - do require a minute or two on the stove to steam, but then can sit and get cold
- Beans - easily simmer on the stove on low heat. You can turn on the heat to super low and forget about these
- Teriyaki Sauce - need to prep before you cook the tofu
- Tofu - cooking next to last because it's quite quick and the thing you want to stay warm
- Sesame Broccoli - only takes 10-15 minutes in the oven
- Last-minute fresh toppings - a quick slice of your avocado or cucmber

Elizabeth's Kitchen Notes
- More than just a rice bowl: every recipe in this series uses ingredients that Bibibop lists on their website. I've never worked at Bibibop and don't know exactly how they prep each food, but I do know flavors! I took each food and used Bibibop's descriptions to create a home-cook method. The result is a bowl that really does taste like Bibibop, not just another rice bowl.
- Meal prep: these recipes are excellent for meal prep. Because there are so many components, making every single one on a weeknight is a bit much. But an hour or two of prep on the weekend can give you easy Bibibop bowls all week.

FAQ & Expert Tips
Yes! I highly recommend it. Prepping the fresh ingredients like kale, carrots, red onions, and making the teriyaki sauce can help make the day-of prep super easy.
Store hot and cold components separately. That way you can reheat rice, beans, veggies, and protein in the microwave, without nuking your kale or carrots.
