This homemade Bibibop-style tofu is a tasty tofu inspired by the teriyaki flavor tofu served at Bibibop. Great for homemade rice bowls.

Welcome to my homemade Bibibop series!
I'm recreating Bibibop favorites, inspired by ingredients that Bibibop actually uses. Easily made at home - for the flavors you love about Bibibop. Cheaper, meal-preppable, and restaurant-style at any time!
This is my Bibibop-style tofu recipe!
Bibibop's tofu has a light teriyaki-esque flavor, so that's what we're going with here. The tofu gets a quick pan-fry then is tossed in my Bibibop-style teriyaki sauce and some sesame seeds to finish. Garnish with some fresh scallions!

Why You'll Love This Homemade Bibibop-Style Tofu
- Bibibop Inspired - so you can recreate your Bibibop bowl at home
- Meal Prep Friendly - tofu is easy to make ahead for bowls all week
- Vegan Protein - Tofu is a cheap and versatile protein! Perfect to take on any flavor
- Dietary needs - the tofu is totally vegan and refined sugar free, and easily made gluten-free and oil-free

Ingredient Notes & Substitutions
- Sesame Oil: I love using just a bit of sesame oil to cook the tofu, for a deeper flavor. You can use regular olive oil. Or feel free to skip the oil and brown the tofu in a nonstick pan
- Super Firm Tofu: super firm tofu is a vacuum-packed tofu that does not require any pre-pressing - if you like a solid, firm tofu, look for super firm. Extra firm also works - you can press it if you want, or just make the recipe as-is. Feel free to also use tempeh or seitan (my seitan chicken would be great if you like chicken on your bowls, or my seitan beef is a great steak sub!)
- Teriyaki Sauce: I used my homemade bibibop-style teriyaki sauce, which is a bit different than my normal WFPB teriyaki sauce recipe. I created the bibibop-style recipe with the exact flavors of Bibibop's sauce in mind. You can use either recipe, or skip some prep and use a store bought sauce. For gluten-free, be sure to use tamari in the sauce.
- Sesame Seeds: Bibibop's tofu usually has sesame seeds, so we'll throw some in at the end. Do this especially if you are skipping the sesame oil
- Scallions: for a fresh crunch tossed with the tofu

Step-By-Step Instructions
Step 1. Slice the tofu into cubes.

Step 2. Heat the sesame oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the tofu and cook 5-7 minutes, until golden brown.

Step 3. Add the teriyaki sauce and sesame seeds, and cook another 3-4 minutes. Serve with fresh scallions as desired.

Elizabeth's Kitchen Notes
- Super Firm Tofu: this is really the only kind of tofu I buy these days. Look for tofu in a soft plastic package in the refrigerated section. Super firm tofu is pre-pressed and is such a time saver! You don't have to do any prep work and you get tofu that holds together straight out of the package
- Cooking method: this pan-fry, then add the sauce method is my go-to tofu cooking method and infuses tons of flavor without having to marinade

FAQ & Expert Tips
Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.
I find that one block of tofu makes three good servings, so if you're prepping this tofu as part of a full Bibibop-style bowl, I'd recommend using two blocks of tofu instead of one. If you have room on the stove, I recommend using two pans, or cooking a second batch after the first, to keep from overcrowding the pan.
